Email sent to all teams Sunday morning

Below is a resend of the message sent earlier -  because it appears that some copies were not delivered to the intended recipients. Our apologies if you receive more than one copy of this resend

Initially this morning we thought there would be no way for us to play the divisions that play on 6v6 and 8v8 fields and briefly posted a message to that effect on our web site.   Thanks to the great support of the Melbourne Eau Gallie United  Soccer club, who are working to line additional 6v6 and 8v8 fields right now, we have a chance to get all games in.

The younger divisions will play shortened halves in the remaining pool games .

We regret the circumstances but we are doing everything we can to make it possible  for teams to complete the tournament

Regards,

The team at Challenge Sports

 To All Fall Challenge Teams

This message is to congratulate and thank all participants in the Fall Challenge for their efforts, patience, understanding, and cooperation in dealing with the effect of the weather and the move to Max K Rodes Park for Sunday's games.

Weather forecasting, especially in Florida, is both difficult and unreliable. The rain at PBRP Saturday evening and into the night far exceeded expectations, making it impossible for the 6 or 7 hours of dry weather before dawn to let the Fields at PBRP become playable.

The many decisions that had to be made very quickly to make the move to Rodes Park resulted in close to the best result we could have hoped for under the circumstances.    A very big part of the the thanks and congratulations goes to teams - players, parents, and coaches who were patient through a confusing and sometimes perplexing morning on Sunday.  Without the cooperation of the teams, the move could not have been accomplished with so much success.

Specific thanks also goes to a lot of people who worked above and beyond a reasonable effort to help make it happen.  Below is a list which almost certainly does not include everyone, and we apologize for omissions.

Host Clubs - South Brevard FC (SBFC) at Palm Bay and Melbourne Eau Gallie United (MEGU) at Rodes Park

SBFC -  As Saturday rain made field 9 unplayable,  SBFC volunteers Patrick Lawless, Bob Rogulskie, and Junior Argon dodged rain and lightning Saturday evening to line a replacement field in the hope that the rain would stop and allow Sunday play.  SBFC Concessions manager Wilson Matias stayed at the entrance to PBRP Sunday morning to make sure that anyone who had not received word about the move to Rodes Park got directions from him.

MEGU - The MEGU folks led by President Victor Hernandez, agreed immediately to make the fields at Rodes Park available.

Initially we thought we would not be able to play the 6v6 or 8v8 divisions at all because only 1 6v6 and 1 8v8 field were set up at Rodes Park.  Victor, with help from MEGU volunteers Joe Laub, Martin Martinez, Victor Henry, Jason White, Abdel Moaoui and Dave Bellows went to the park just after dawn and lined a second 6v6 and a second 8v8 field, making it possible to get all 6v6 and 8v8 games played  by shortening the game times.  They would have lined another of each size but the Park only has 2 sets of goals that meet 6v6 and 8v8 specs.

The MEGU volunteers were able to set up a concession stand to provide food and drink on Sunday.  Volunteers Marie Johnson, Parker and Christi Rushnell, Arcelia Martinez, Dan Johnson, Andrew and Laurie Burgess, and Yissel Hernandez  shared duties at the concession stand

Referees

Under the leadership of Referee Assignor Justin Lauer, the referees were able to set up at Rodes Park and adjust to the schedule impact on the reduced number of 6v6 and 8v8 fields so that all games were covered.

Staff

Team Leader Ellen Prendergast stayed at Palm Bay well into the night on Saturday trying to get all games in to minimize the number of teams that would have to play an extra game on Sunday where many would already have to play 2 games.    All but 3 games were resolved on Saturday and Ellen worked into the night  to make arrangements for those 3 games to be resolved early on Sunday.  On Sunday she was at PBRP before dawn to learn that the fields were unplayable and immediately started the work necessary to move games to Rodes Park.  Supporting Ellen on the Challenge Sports Staff was Jennie Powell and Joey Prendergast.   To help deal with the Sunday chaos, Jim Powell came off sick leave on Sunday.

We would also like to recognize Larry Reisman and the IRSA club for emailing an offer Saturday night for the use of the IRSA fields at Hobart Park.  It was decided that the available time to move and the distance to Hobart Park made Rodes Park a better choice.  We were pleased to have the offer.

All in all, while everyone would have  preferred a dry and less "exciting" weekend, things  went as well as possible considering the impact of the weather.

Much of the credit goes to the participating teams...... well done
